PROJECTS

Military Honor Banners:  To honor the men and women serving our country to protect our freedom and liberty, honor banners now hang along Main Street for active military personal from Corona.  Council Member Scott had funds set aside specifically for establishing this program.  Additionally, he raised the funding to cover the program for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

New Police Headquarters:  Public safety is always important.  Our city has grown considerably since the old station was built in the 1970.  The new headquarters has up-to-date equipment to assist our officers in maintaining the safe environment we all appreciate. The new headquarters was completed under budget.

Safety:  Crime is down and our city was named as one of the top 100 safest cities for our size in the United States.  Credit goes to our Police Department and to everyone helping each other.

Automated Traffic Management System:  The system is progressing forward.  When concluded, it will connect nearly every traffic signal in Corona to the Traffic Management Center at City Hall.  The system allows: Public Works operators to visually see intersections and check on problematic situations; program intersection traffic lights and store for different patterns during each day; store emergency detour signaling  changes for times of need; collect data; and, for the first time, CalTrans will permit a city to attach cameras to their signals to see operations.  The Automated Traffic Management System is an excellent program for our residents and Council Member Scott has been advocating for it.

Communication:  Like The Inner Circle email messages every other week, Inner Circle on Facebook, www.InnerCircleCorona.com , www.ShopCorona.com and www.DiscoverCorona.com all serve as avenues to keep community members informed about the many things available in our city.  Check them out!

New Ethics Code:   Council Member Scott served on the Ad Hoc Committee appointed to update the Ethics Code in place for Council Members and top city staff.

Budget:  Like most businesses, our City has struggled to stay within its budget.  This required a $5.3 million dollar cut and over $7 million dollar mandated state payment from our Redevelopment Department, but services continue to our residents and businesses.

Senior Center Renovations:  Renovations and updating of the Senior Center have been made to make our Senior Center a better location for our beloved seniors.

Stage Coach Park:  The park opened to provide those on northwest side of the city with a good facility for families.  The park opened in 2008.  A new walking path has been added in 2011.

El Cerrito Sports Complex:  The new sports complex has been completed.  This is a positive addition to our recreational offerings.

Traffic Court:  No person wants to go to traffic court, but Council Member Scott working as a member of the Riverside Superior Court Community Committee member, expressed a need for a traffic court to be held in Corona one day a week.  In 2010, the traffic court opened and Council Member Scott is appreciative of the efforts given by the staff of the Riverside Superior Court to make this happen. Our officers have more time to spend in our city.

New Animal Shelter:  The A new animal shelter will be opening soon.  This is an important project to Council Member Scott as he visited the current location shortly after taking office in 2008.  Since then, he has keep a focus on moving forward with the new shelter.

First Solar Bus Stop in Southern California:  The bus stop at Citron and Main Streets is equipped with solar panels.  The energy collected operates the traffic lights at this intersection.

Roads Resurfaced:  Using grant funds, Public Works has been able to resurface roads. One road recently resurfaced was Sampson which desperately needed it due to pot holes and worn blacktop material.  Using a new technique, the material from the road was mixed with new material and laid out to create a new smooth road surface.  This new technique saved the cost of trucking and disposing of the old material.

Traffic Court:  No person wants to go to traffic court, but Council Member Scott, working as a member of the Riverside Superior Court Community Committee member, expressed a need for a traffic court to be held in Corona one day a week.  In 2010, the traffic court opened and Council Member Scott is appreciative of the efforts given by the staff of the Riverside Superior Court to make this happen. Our officers have more time to spend in our city.

Fourth of July Parade and Event:  Residents continue to speak highly of the quality and importance of the Fourth of July Parade and Event at Santana Park.  They express how much they wish to continue recognizing our Country and showing our patriotism.
